Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) is a supply chain quality mark. It is evidence that the AEO's place in the supply chain is secure, and that customs controls and procedures are efficient and compliant. It is not compulsory for imports or exports but provides access to simplified customs procedures which can fast track goods through customs and safety procedures.
There are three types of AEO certificates1. The first (an AEOC) allows businesses to benefit from simplifications under customs rules. The second (an AEOS) allows facilitations of customs controls relating to security and safety of goods (AEOS) and the third combines the two and offers both simplifications.
