During 2024, tax authorities across the European Union continued to implement technology and digitise the compliance and administration landscape.
A significant milestone was reached on 5 November 2024 when EU member states unanimously agreed to the 'VAT in the Digital Age' (VIDA) package. The aim of the package is to maximise and improve the EU VAT system to be better aligned to the digital economy and to mitigate the risk of tax fraud.
The new VIDA rules can be divided into three pillars, E-invoicing and Digital Reporting Requirements, the Platform economy, and a single EU VAT registration system. Current proposed timescales for the introduction
