The social security agencies in Italy are:
- Ìý
•ÌýÌýÌýÌý Istituto nazionale della previdenza sociale (INPS), the National institute for Social security
- Ìý
•ÌýÌýÌýÌý Istituto Nazionale per l'Assicurazione contro gli Infortuni sul Lavoro (INAIL), the National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (see 1.4)
- Ìý
•ÌýÌýÌýÌý Servizio Sanitario Nazionale (SSN), the National Health Service
Contributions can be classified into two different types:
- Ìý
•ÌýÌýÌýÌý social security contributions: compulsory payments to the social security agency (INPS for the private sector; INPDAP for the public sector) in order to obtain a pension benefit (note that information for INPDAP is held within the INPS website)
- Ìý
•ÌýÌýÌýÌý welfare contributions: payments made to INPS or INAIL, to obtain coverage for risks related to accidents and occupational diseases, disability, illness
The establishment of an employment relationship (see 1.1) automatically determines the onset of the corresponding contribution-insurance relationship.
