An employee may make a request to take time off from work for various reasons. The length of time an employer is required to give and whether this will be paid time off will depend on the circumstances.
The Work and Care Act (Wazo) combines several statutory leave entitlements such as maternity leave, adoption leave, foster care leave, partner leave (Wazo WIEG), paid parental leave (Wazo Wbo) and the Self-employed and Pregnant (Wazo ZEZ) scheme. Further details can be found on Gov.nl.
Sometimes there is a right to partial continued payment of wages, but otherwise there is the right to claim benefit from UWV (Institute for Employee Insurance) which is normally claimed by the employer unless otherwise specified.
There are several statutory leave entitlements available to employees in the Netherlands, including for short and long-term care of deponents. Details can be found at Gov.nl. The key leave entitlements are summarised below.
