3.2 Work absences (holiday pay, sick pay, parental leave pay)

Holiday pay

Regardless of their employment status, employees are entitled to a minimum of four weeks of vacation annually. Individuals under the age of 20 are entitled to a minimum of five weeks of vacation. However, with the agreement of the employer or as stipulated in a collective employment agreement, employees may be granted additional vacation time. (See Vacations.)

Sick pay

If an employee is unable to work due to illness, they need to inform their employer as soon as possible. Typically, a medical certificate is required after three consecutive days of absence. Specific requirements may vary, so it is advisable to consult the employer for detailed instructions.

If an employee can only work part-time due to illness or pregnancy, their doctor should specify the maximum daily or weekly hours that they can work on the medical certificate.

If an employee is on sick leave, there are two possible ways that they may receive their salary:
