6.1.1 Switzerland/EU social security agreement

Switzerland

Any employee in Switzerland is subject to the Swiss social security system. However, there are exceptions to this rule, set out in the social security agreements concluded by Switzerland with EU/EFTA member states (6.1.1) and non-EU/EFTA member states (6.1.2).

In principle, each employee is insured on an individual basis. Individuals who are subject to the Swiss social security system pay contributions and as such are entitled to benefits. Under certain conditions, some are also entitled to have their contributions reimbursed.

6.1ÌýÌýÌýÌý Social security for globally mobile employees

Switzerland has several reciprocal social security arrangements with EU/EEA countries (6.1.1) and countries outside the EU/EEA states (6.1.2).
