2.2 Withholding of social security

Australia

Australians are entitled to access a broad range of social security safety nets such as:

  1. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý unemployment benefits

  2. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý health care

  3. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý subsidised childcare, and

  4. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý old-aged benefit payments including pensions

Access to these benefits is not dependent on whether an individual has made contributions to specific government funding pools. There is no requirement for employers to withhold tax for the specific purpose of funding social security initiatives.
