9.2 Employment contracts

Japan

Basic employment protection legislation in Japan is contained in the Labour Standards Law. However, other acts also speak to labour standards and protection of worker rights.

Labour laws apply to employment relationships in Japan regardless of the citizenship of employees. Therefore, labour laws apply to foreign nationals working in Japan, unless otherwise agreed between employers and employees.
