1.1ÌýÌýÌýÌý Introduction: overview of the domestic payroll system

The Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago is housed within the 'Red House' in Port of Spain.

Since the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago gained independence in 1962, the Parliament has been a bicameral one, consisting of a Senate and a House of Representatives, following the Westminster system of government. Parliament is also known as the legislature, entrusted with the responsibility for making laws for good governance, and providing oversight of the Government or Executive.

Responsible for budgets, bills, and Acts of Parliament, it drives the legislative framework within which Trinidad and Tobago is administrated.

CARICOM

The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago is a member of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM), which constitutes a group of 20 developing Caribbean nations (15 full-time members and five associate members), who have joined together to form an economic and political community, working together to promote economic growth and trade.
